I fundamentally believe that the key to being happy and fulfilled in life boils down to one thing – purpose. My purpose? To help everyone build a business doing what they love. Because I believe that if you can build your future, live within your glorious vision, be creative and connect with the energy of other incredible founders – this is a phenomenal recipe for living the happiest of lives, and that is what I wish for everyone.
Are you loving what you do?
Right, listen up, you creative legend! Let’s chat about the dream life we’re all after – that sweet blend of doing what you love and loving what you do, just like Holly Tucker, MBE, (creative entrepreneur and founder of notonthehighstreet) waxes lyrical about in her cracking book: Do What You Love, Love What You Do.
I recently heard a business mentor say “Do What You Love” is bad advice and should go in the bin, and I couldn’t disagree more!
I’ve built my business around doing what I love and I’ll bang that particular drum till the cows come home (even if I do get shot down in flames for it).
It’s what I want for my own business and for my dream clients too.
Ever heard of what Holly calls the Good Life Business Model? Well, in a nutshell, it’s built around these three little beauties – Be Good, Do Good, and Feel Good:
The Good Life Business Model – ‘Do What You Love, Love What You Do’ – Holly Tucker.
Now, most of us didn’t start our businesses to slog through a load of paperwork and clock-watch.
We’re here because we’ve got passion and a bit of talent – whether it’s designing, creating, or just bringing something good into the world.
And the Good Life Business Model is all about using that passion to create a business that, quite frankly, you actually enjoy working in, day in and day out.
Let’s dive into how each part of this model can give your creative business the vibe you’ve been after.
Be Good: Show Up and Stand Out
First up, Be Good. And no, that doesn’t mean play nice and fade into the background. It means showing up as the best version of yourself. Think of it like a musician hitting the stage – you’ve got to bring the magic and let people see what you’re all about.
Ask yourself:
- What do I exude passion for?
- What are my strongest skills?
- What ability do I have that no one else has?
- What am I talented at?
- What would someone call me an expert in?
- How can I be a ‘proud nerd’ in a certain subject?
When you focus on being good, you’re putting quality first, which naturally attracts people who appreciate what you do. When your work, your ethos, and the way you treat people all sing from the same hymn sheet, you start to stand out. Your dream clients? They’ll clock it in no time.
So how do you “be good”? It’s all about consistency and that unique flair that only you can bring. Don’t water down your personality or try to be everyone’s cup of tea – bring your A-game, whatever that looks like. People are drawn to real people like bees to a flower, so make your “good” something worth buzzing about.
Do Good: Make It Matter
Now onto Do Good. This one’s all about purpose and impact – beyond just earning a few quid. It’s about leaving a positive mark, whether that’s through eco-friendly choices, supporting a cause, or just making life a bit easier for your clients.
Ask yourself these questions:
- How will my business make a difference and help others?
- What area needs my help?
- What would make a difference?
- Who can I give a chance to?
- How will my brand change the world?
- Why will people be glad this business exists?
People want to work with brands that care about more than just the bottom line, so if you’re out here making a difference in some small (or big) way, shout about it!
Your dream clients are looking for that feel-good factor. When they see that you’re genuinely committed to making the world a bit brighter, they’re going to be drawn to your business, not just as customers, but as people who believe in what you’re about.
It’s like building a band of loyal followers, all in tune with your values. You get the idea?
Feel Good: Create a Community
And last but not least – Feel Good. Let’s get real here: no business is worth the hassle if it drains the life out of you. Running a business should feel like the ultimate jam session, where you’re in the groove and genuinely enjoying the ride.
Think about:
- What does looking after my mental health look like to me?
- How do I plan fun?
- Have I cleared out the drains in my life and concentrated on those radiators that pump energy and positivity into my life?
- What sort of planning am I comfortable with and how will I tackle it?
- Do I have a support network?
Feeling good isn’t just about work-life balance (though that helps), it’s about creating a business model that aligns with your passions and strengths, and having the right people around you, so you’re not constantly running on empty.
When you’ve built a business (and life) that makes you feel good, it’s magnetic. You’ll be attracting clients who want to work with someone who’s passionate, who’s got that spark.
People can tell when you love what you do and it’s contagious.
Wrapping It Up: Living Your Good Life
So, there you have it: the Good Life Business model – a recipe for building a business you’re chuffed to wake up to each morning.
Be Good, Do Good, and Feel Good – three pillars that’ll turn your business from a grind to a groove.
And hey, if you’re still spinning your wheels trying to figure out how to say all this to your dream clients – that’s where I come in.
Let’s work together to craft the kind of copy that not only shows off your passion but also draws in the clients who’ll get it.
Drop me a line and let’s get your business singing from the rooftops.
I’ll end with some final words from Holly herself: “Are you living a life that you think other people love or a life that you love?”
